LINK: jeb1948.blogspot.com Dion DiMucci Francis (born July 18, 1939), known better known as Dion, is an American singer-songwriter who blended elements of doo-wop, pop, rock and R & B styles . Dion to an Italian-American family was born in the Bronx. [As a child he used to his father, a vaudeville entertainer, to accompany them on tour,and developed a love for country music especially Hank Williams and the blues and doo-wop stars he heard in local bars and on radio. His singing skills were at the street corners of Crotona Avenue, where he rounded up other local singers inventing polished a cappella licks, and in local clubs. In early 1957 he applied for Bob and Gene Schwartz, who had just founded Mohawk Records. They took him with a vocal group, the Timber Lanes, and released a single "The Chosen Few", arranged byHugo Montenegro, a minor regional hit. Schwartz also signed Dion's friends, The Belmonts, named after nearby Belmont Avenue. Her breakthrough came together in spring 1958, when "I Wonder Why" made # 22 on the national U.S. charts with "No One Knows" and "Do not Pity Me" which were also chart hits followed. This success was Dion and the Belmonts a place on the "Winter Dance Party" tour with Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper. On 2 February 1959, in accordance with the game...
