saghar siddiqui: dil mila aur: ghulam ali ساغر صدیقی: دل ملا اور: غلام علی

The Poet: Saghar Siddiqui ساغر صدیقی (takhallus: Saghar) was in انبالہ in Ambala, Punjab (now born in Haryana), India, in 1928. He was given the name Muhammad Akhtar محمد اختر in childbirth. Perhaps he had an unhappy childhood, as he talked very little in his later years, even to his closest friends. It seems that he was the only child of his parents, and he spent the early years of his life in Ambala and Saharanpur سہارنپور (UP, India). He received his early educationby Habib Hassan حبیب حسن, a friend of the family. Young Akhtar was much impressed by this gentleman, and he got interested in Urdu poetry, because of him. He then moved to Amritsar, Punjab, India, primarily in search of work. There, he used to make wooden combs and also started writing Urdu poetry. For some time he used as his pseudonym Nasir Hijazi, but later he moved to Saghar Siddiqui. At the age of 16, he would regularly mushairas. He sang his poetry in mushairas held in Jalandhar,Ludhiana and Gurdaspur. With its sleek appearance, wore pants and do ghora boskie دو گھوڑا بوسکی (yellow silk cloth), shirts with long curly hair, and beautiful ghazals recited in a melodious voice, he was a great success in mushairas. Before 1947, every Sunday he would visit Lahore, sometimes mushairas participate. In a mushaira in Lahore, جگر مراد آبادی Jigar Moradabadi (1890-1960) was so young that he kissed Saghar impressed him on the forehead. He moved toLahore in 1947 following the creation of Pakistan.
